DENTAL VENEERS

The dental veneers are very thin translucent ceramic plates which are cemented by the dentist permanently on the surface of the front teeth with an adhesive technique. The veneers give a natural look to improving smile aesthetics without causing dental problems, even in cases of diastema and serious injury to the tooth surface.
The dental veneers have no contraindications. The ceramic veneer covers the entire visible portion of the tooth. The average thickness of the veneers to teeth is around 0.2-0.5 mm.

The veneers are among dental restorations less invasive, removing it only 2 to 3 tenths of a millimeter of the enamel of the front surface of the tooth. The part removed is replaced by thin porcelain veneers that integrate optimally both in terms of aesthetic and biological. In some situations, you can even add thin layers of ceramic without filing any part of the tooth (Additional Veneers).
Once the dentist completes the preparation of the teeth, dental impression is taken. The patient is temporarily stepped down after the construction of provisional composite resin veneers that protect the tooth and simulate the shape and color of porcelain veneers final.

The dental lab builds porcelain veneers on the plaster model made from the impression, using the provisional reference.

In a second appointment, the dental veneers are tried in the mouth to assess the color, shape and adapt to the prepared teeth. Once satisfied with these parameters, the ceramic veneers are cemented to the teeth through the use of cements, composites having a color equal to that of the tooth.

When can you use them?

The porcelain dental veneers have a variety of inidcations, they are used on a tooth basically healthy, but with aesthetic problems, among which:
• malformed teeth (cones, rectangular) or where there is the need to transform the shape of a tooth to another,
• fillings with color defects, the result of the deterioration of white fillings,
• fractured teeth,
• diastema (space between the teeth), where they apply to teeth veneers of size slightly greater than that of the application surface, so as to fill the empty spaces
• teeth with enamel defects, eg amelogenesis imperfect,
• discolored teeth (permanent stains) if the whitening result is not very effective,
• Worn teeth of adult patients because of the function, as a result of erosion processes: chemical (vomiting from bulimia, abuse of acidic beverages such as lemon or various types of cola); mechanical (bruxism, incorrect brushing)
• teeth with abnormal position: rotated or misaligned teeth can be corrected with the use of dental veneers, creating, thus, an effect of "instant orthodontics".

Advantages and disadvantages

Dental porcelain veneers require preparation of the tooth extremely conservative and allow the achievement of an aesthetic that is unmatched by other treatments. Compared to a normal crown, the procedure is much less traumatic for the teeth because a much smaller amount of tooth substance is sacrificed. In addition, the ceramic veneers are durable and resistant to bite forces.

Once cemented to the tooth, strengthens the tooth structure remaining; the bond-veneers dental enamel is the strongest bond that can be achieved with dental enamel-dentin adhesives, the "glue" that mediate the binding of aesthetic restorative materials with the dental tissue.

Their strong point, however, is the exceptional aesthetics, much higher than of a crown metal crown. Instead of a metal-ceramic crown, the border between the thin veneer of ceramic and the natural tooth is virtually invisible, and therefore must not be placed under the gum.

With veneers there is no known problem of gum irritation caused by crowns, resulting in shrinkage of the gums and visibility of the edges of the crowns. For very dark teeth, before application of the veneers we recommend pre-treatment whitening, to avoid unwanted color transparencies.
The porcelain veneers are an excellent treatment in all cases where you want to improve shape, tooth color by increasing the pleasure of the patient to smile freely. The veneers are the right choice when the front teeth have to be corrected in their form. Corrections of minor defects position, diastema, shape and color, can be realized with excellent aesthetic results.

The veneers may be maintained in the oral cavity for a long time when they are followed the appropriate protocols of manufacture by the dentist and maintenance by the patient.
Veneers improve oral hygiene because replace damage tooth areas and reduce the occurrence of problems caused by germs and bacteria.
